The box has to mount on the wall and then the light fastens to the box so there is no gap between the face of the box and the light fixture head. Note: The fixture I used was a Home Depot fixture. You can use any fixture just as long as the pancake box will fit beneath the shroud and the mounting screws for the fixture are matched to fit the lamp.
